In 2020, Armitage & Wilson were proud to contribute to the interior of Havelock Place, a purpose-built care home located in the heart of Backworth, North Tyneside. The development later opened its doors in 2022, offering specialist accommodation tailored to the needs of older people and those living with dementia.
This project was all about creating spaces that felt as comfortable and familiar as they were practical—spaces where residents could feel at home, not just housed. Working alongside the main contractor and fit-out specialists, we were commissioned to manufacture and supply a collection of bespoke furniture pieces for the communal areas and bedrooms.
At the heart of the design brief was a sense of warmth and dignity. We crafted loose furniture seating for shared lounges and dining areas—carefully upholstered in soft, calming tones that offer a welcoming first impression. The seating was designed with both comfort and functionality in mind, using high-performance fabrics suitable for care environments without compromising on style.
We also produced headboards and seating for resident bedrooms, and a selection of bespoke armchairs and supportive lounge chairs, built with ergonomic consideration to make sitting, rising, and resting easier for residents. Each piece was designed to suit its setting—some arranged for quiet reading corners, others in sociable configurations for group activities and conversation.
Every item was made to order in our North East workshop, ensuring a precise fit for the building’s layout and interior scheme. Our team provided a smooth delivery and finish, in line with the overall programme.
Havelock Place is more than just a care facility—it’s a place of community, care, and connection. We’re proud to have played a small part in shaping that environment through thoughtful, well-crafted furniture that supports both the emotional and practical needs of its residents.
